GRAHAM COATMAN is an accomplished musical director and accompanist. He is equally at home in the concert
hall and the theatre, working with professionals, amateurs and children - from the Wigmore Hall to Wakefield
Prison - he has created memorable performances. Whilst a student at Bristol University he became a founder
associate musical director of Bristol Intimate Opera, training ground for several of today's operatic
stars, and a company that continued to flourish long after he had been a student. He was also musical
director for a rare (if not unique?) performance of Martinu's 1-act opera Ariadne with the University
Operatic Society.
From there Graham went to Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, from
which stems his active involvement in every avenue of music and theatre, and work with singers. Since
then he has been involved in the production of opera, music-theatre and musicals, as well as music for
plays and silent films with equal alacrity and success. He is no less active in the concert hall, where
he has conducted orchestras and choirs in a much major repertoire as well as new work.
As an accompanist,
Graham covers a similarly broad repertoire. He has played for early classic silent films, lieder, and
everything in between, even taking a turn at the Joanna, when he lived in Leicestershire, at his local
pub with the redoubtable Fearless Hiss and Boo Band! His current incarnation as a pianist is as partner
to the inimitably versatile Australian soprano, Adey Grummet, in their witty and entertaining cabaret-recitals
Things We Found Under The Sofa and Sing Me A Song With Social Significance.
